The thought experiment was first introduced by G.N.Ling in a grant application to the National Institutes of Health under the title: "What Distinguishes Water in Cancer and Normal Tissues?" dated Feb. 23, 1974, p.14.
It was repeated in essence in the "Introduction" (p.xxx, paragraph 1) of "A Revolution in the Physiology of the Living Cell" by G.N.Ling, Krieger Publishing Co. Malabar, Fl, 1992
